Fête d'Hiver / Carnaval at ÉFT
February 15th & 16th, 2012
On February 15th and 16th, École Forest Trail is hosting our annual “Winter Carnaval” modeled after the Quebec Winter Carnival celebrating French culture. The Quebec Carnival is the largest winter carnival in the world - a northern version of the Mardi Gras Carnival in Louisiana.
Tradition states that a snowman (Bonhomme Carnaval) encouraged the people of Quebec to participate outdoors even in the cold weather. The people of Quebec welcomed Bonhomme to their city by giving him a hat and sash (to keep warm), and built him an Ice Palace in which to live. Every year the Carnival is celebrated with outdoor activities, snow sculptures, parades and music.
At ÉFT, the Carnaval Committee, made up of teachers and parents, are hard at work planning all the crafts and activities. Again this year the students will be making their themed crafts, enjoying outdoor games, and be treated to a special pancake treat in our Cabanne a Sucre!
